I spent a wonderful week at Crystal Blue Resort for a photography workshop led by Simon Lorenz of Insider Divers and Tobias Friedrich. Mike Bartick (blackwater dive guru) also gave talks during the workshop. What a dream team for the participants! I came away with a head exploding with knowledge and ideas. Some of the other participants were professional-level photographers. Despite our differences in skill, we all came away better photographers.

I had a 5-star time. I've trusted Insider Divers on many trips - great diving, wonderful people, and Simon really takes care to ensure the group is happy. I'm already signed up for more!

Learn from the pros: Highly recommend for anyone serious to advance their UW photography. I've done dive trips with photo workshops before, and they've been a mixed bag elsewhere. Here, it all came together: Proper planning (from organisation to season and dive sites), care and hand-selected groups, and most importantly: A schedule jam-packed with diving, workshops, and rubbing shoulders with a great crew of like-minded people.I submitted some of my photos from the workshop and won in two categories at OG PICOTY!!Diving the same sites as the pros will help anyone who wants to take their photography game to the next level. I loved the spirit of "get out there to get a killer shot". Proper image reviews, up-to-date software classes, and the pro's insights into composition and overall technique will appeal to beginners or more advanced photographers (like myself) alike.5 stars – and looking forward to the next trip!”

Simon and Tobias, our photography maestros, orchestrated a symphony of lectures on underwater photography, composition, lighting, and those mind-boggling techniques for capturing the tiniest of critters in all their glory.

Spending a week in the company of these underwater photography masters, with the chance to bombard them with questions throughout the day, was nothing short of priceless.

My underwater images have been dragged by the ears to a whole new level, and I'm seriously contemplating proudly displaying some of my work in my living room.

FAQ

  • I am a beginner, is this workshop for me?

If you’re passionate about underwater photography, you’re absolutely in the right place. A single workshop can help you skip years of trial and error, giving you a structured path to turning your creative ideas into real results underwater. Our coaches guide you through every element of your kit — and even refine your diving technique if needed — ensuring you build confidence, control, and artistry with each dive.

  • I have quite a bit of experience, is this workshop for me?

Even when you feel you’ve reached your limit, our workshops will push your photography further. You’ll see how our coaches break down theory with clear, didactic structure, explore a wide range of approaches and techniques, and dive alongside professional underwater photographers who support your shooting in real time. And throughout the week, you’ll be surrounded by like‑minded photographers from all walks of life, creating an inspiring environment that accelerates your growth.
We have had award-winning photographers join our workshops, win more awards afterwards and return the next workshop a year later.

  • What is the minimum requirement to join a workshop

You need to have AOW and Nitox and it would probably be good to have at least 50 dives under your belt. You need to own a camera and a strobe. If you do not own a camera you can get in touch with us and we will help you pick the right starting set up.

  • Will I learn about editing photos?

Our workshop is built around daily, hands‑on editing. Each day you’ll join presentations and focused coaching sessions on post‑processing, followed by our signature nightly live image review — where the coaches edit participants’ photos in front of the group. Watching multiple pros work through your images reveals how each uses their software, approaches creative decisions, and uncovers the full potential hidden in your shots.
